Grizzlies, Jaren Jackson Jr. stat controversy, explained: Reddit sparks discussion with betting implications

Jaren Jackson Jr. has become a popular pick for Defensive Player of the Year over the past several weeks. Before Saturday, he had become the favorite to win the award at every major Sports book, with odds at some dipping below minus-200. When CBS Sports made our mid-season awards picks , seven of eight voters chose Jackson as the Defensive Player of the Year. Several other notable outlets followed suit. And then, on Saturday morning, a lengthy post gained traction on Reddit. The thread, by user u/ADMassive6666, was titled "Memphis Grizzlies scorekeeper posting fraudulent numbers." The post itself alleged that the scorekeeper working Grizzlies home Game s was artificially inflating Jackson's block and steal numbers, which, in turn, fueled the momentum behind Jackson's Defensive Player of the Year campaign. Soon after, Caesars Sportsbook removed Defensive Player of the Year odds from the board. Ot

Hundreds Of Pure Gold Roman Coins Found in Italy

Image
Roman Coins: The Italian Minister for Culture disclosed a fascinating archeological discovery near Como, Italy, to the north of Milan, in September 2020. Scientists later determined that the object that construction workers initially believed to be a huge soapstone jar in the theater’s basement was really an amphora that contained piled Roman gold coins that were likely worth millions of dollars. The coins were a surprise to the experts as large jugs with handles on either side, amphora, usually held wines and foodstuffs for the Romans. According to npr.org, the Roman coins show the images of emperors Honorius, Valentinian III, Leon I, Antonio and Libio Severo all before 474 AD. The images of the emperors will help to correct any modern assumptions as to how they looked and help scientists to learn more about this turbulent time in Italy. Because of the way the coins were so nicely stacked, coin expert Maria Grazia Facchinetti believes the cache was not the p

Sega Of America Once Labeled Sonic "Unsalvageable" When Shown Original Design

Sonic the Hedgehog is such an iconic video Game mascot, most people probably assume Sega took one look at the character's design and labeled whoever drew it up a genius, falling at their feet with the design held aloft. The reality is quite the opposite as when Sega of America was first shown what its Japanese counterparts wanted the studio's new mascot to look like, the response it got was even worse than a simple "no thanks". In an interview for Bitmap Books, via Time Extension, Mark Cerny, who helped create Sonic 2 and has gone on to help design consoles for PlayStation, detailed how Sonic's design came about. Cerny acted as a go-between for Sega's Japanese and American offices at the time. Tasked with showing the US office what their Japanese peers had come up with, Cerny didn't get the response he expected. Schools face pressure to take harder line on discipline

As kids’ behavior reaches crisis points after the stress and isolation of pandemic shutdowns, many schools are facing pressure from critics to rethink their approaches to discipline — including policies intended to reduce suspensions and expulsions As kids' behavior reaches crisis points after the stress and isolation of pandemic shutdowns, many schools are facing pressure from critics to rethink their approaches to discipline — including policies intended to reduce suspensions and expulsions. Approaches such as “restorative justice” were adopted widely in recent decades as educators updated exclusionary policies that cut off students' access to learning and disproportionately affected students of color. But more students have been acting out, and some school systems have faced questions from teachers, parents and lawmakers about whether a gentle approach can effectively address problems that disrupt classrooms. The latest example came this week in Newport News, Virginia, where

UN says Taliban divided on appeal to restore women's rights

A delegation led by the highest-ranking woman at the United Nations has urged the Taliban during a four-day visit to Afghanistan to reverse their crackdown on women and girls UNITED NATIONS -- A delegation led by the highest-ranking woman at the United Nations urged the Taliban during a four-day visit to Afghanistan that ended Friday to reverse their crackdown on women and girls. Some Taliban officials were more open to restoring women’s rights but others were clearly opposed, a U.N. spokesman said. The U.N. team met with the Taliban in the capital of Kabul and the southern city of Kandahar. It did not release the names of any of the Taliban officials. The meetings focused on the restrictive measures the Taliban have imposed on women and girls since they took power in August 2021, during the final weeks of the U.S. and NATO forces' pullout after 20 years of war. The team, headed by U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, found that some Taliban officials “have been cooperativ

A ‘sea monster’ was pulled from the depths off the coast of Australia by fisherman who was surprised when he dragged in a shark with beady eyes and a human-like smile. The shark appeared to have rough, charcoal-colored skin and a small mouth with tiny sharp teeth lining the top and bottom. The image of the dead creature was shared on Facebook, sparking several theories as to what kind of shark it is – some suggest it was a cookiecutter or goblin shark. Dean Grubbs, associate director of research at the Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory told Newsweek, that it looks like a gulper shark. The creepy creature is said to be a gulper shark that is critically endangered around Australia due to overfishing The shark was caught by fisherman Trapnman Bermagui on September 12. ‘Never Seen One Like That,’ Fisherman Who Caught Albino All-white Shark Off Britain Released It Back Into Sea

For 50-year-old fisherman Jason Gillespie, it was a rare first to have caught an albino all -white shark one day. He was deep-sea fishing near the Isle Of Wight on Tuesday along with some friends when he made the marvellous catch, claims reports. Any Jaws references will seem almost forced at this point but this is an incredible catch truly. The three-foot-long all -white tope shark is said to be leucistic which means its skin is devoid of any pigment. “I’ve been fishing for 30 years and I’ve never seen one like that. apparently it’s a condition where the pigment dies out of the skin colour. It’s similar to an albino, but they have red eyes generally,” Gillespie, who hails from Waterlooville, Hampshire, told Daily Mail in an interview. “I caught it on Tuesday, off the Isle of Wight – what’re the chances? I have no idea. It’s the fish of a lifetime, one in a million. I’ve certainly never seen one, it’s been on Facebook since Tuesday and no one else has come for
